Science for Toddlers - Curriculum - 3 Credit Hours

Thank you for registering for Science for Toddlers!

As any scientist knows, the best way to learn science is to engage in science! As children explore their surroundings, they are actively constructing their own scientific knowledge. All children should have the opportunity to become scientifically literate. In order for this learning to happen, the effort to introduce children to the essentials of science and exploration must begin at an early age. Children need to have a chance to ask and answer questions, do investigations, and learn to apply problem-solving skills through fun hands-on activities. Rather than being viewed as the memorization of facts, science is seen as a way of thinking and trying to understand the world. The more confident and engaged children are as learners, the more beneficial the effects on their achievement.

This course provides the fundamental concepts of teaching children the value science as they explore the world and expand their thinking. This class will help you to guide children in observing with all of their senses and to classify, predict, and communicate, so they can discover and embrace science at an early age, cultivating science learning confidence and skills in youth.

In this class you will be asked to read a series of articles concerning teaching science to toddlers. After each article you will take a quiz on the material that you read. Don’t worry, these quizzes are to help you identify the important elements of what you have read. You may take the quiz as many times as you wish by clicking on the “Restart Quiz” button. Once you feel comfortable with the material, click on the “Return to Class” button and to move forward and read the next article. At the end of the class, you will take a final test consisting of the questions you have answered along the way. You must receive an 80% score to earn your certificate.
